Parker T1 (1969-1970) from USA

Parker T1

As a collector for vintage pens, I have been looking for a Parker T1 for a long time. The T1 was made  for a very short time during the 1970s with tooling that wasn't  really up for the task. The T1 pens where introduced in April of 1970 as "The Space Pen". In the wake of the moon missions of the late 1960s, Parker decided to make a pen of the consummate aerospace material, titanium.

The result was the T-1, released in 1970 and discontinued shortly thereafter making it one of the rare and collectible fountain pen.

It was a bold venture to honour that man had succeeded with landing on the moon by using a special material. The titanium however, proved so hard that it became increasingly more expensive to produce them. Also the supplier was unable to produce titanium sheets of the Titanium. It came to a point when Parker's production costs ended up exceeding the profit for each item. Furthermore the T1 had an ingenious design where the nib was only a continuation, a true integration which had one disadvantage; if You dropped the pen and broke the nib, it could not be exchanged or repaired. Latter day collectors have tried replacing the tips with modern techniques, both still to this day, the titanium is one tough metal to work with.

Vintage Pen nibs & Others

Fountain Pen Nibs & Others

During my search for vintage fountain pens, we often come across items such as the pen nibs...

Parker 25 (1985) from Malaysia Kuala Lumpur

Parker 25

During one of my work trip to Malaysia, I have managed to find this 1985 Parker 25 from KL stationery shop in year 2000. Sometime, when one is least expected, we can find treasures along the streets shops.

The Parker "25" is a Flighter, made from steel and plastic, and had easily replaceable nib/sections. The shape of the Parker "25" was unique, since the back of the pen was thinner than the front end, stepped down without really being tapered and it has the 1970s totally square clip, with the Parker logo in a square plastic emblem.

Hero anniversary (1925-1995)

英雄金筆 from Singapore Chinatown in 1988

Hero 100 Gold nip pen

These vintage China made Hero 100 英雄金筆 have sentimental vales as these were found in an old book shops at Singapore Chinatown (牛車水) before the old shop houses were renovated during 1988. The nice old gentleman who sold me the pens told me that these were the top of the lines hero pens with solid gold nibs, which were a luxury for China made pens...

Parker 75 Florence Fountian pen

Parker 75 Florence

I have started to build up my small collection of Parker 75. This Parker 75 Florence is one of the most attractive and elegant 75 pattern with its two-tone vermeil, gold over solid sterling silver, cabochon in clip top. This 75 was made in France for the Italian market, French and Italian hallmarks plus Italian serial number on side of section. USA 14K nib, section ring with angle indicator lines, old-style metal convertor, pen appears to be new old stock. As these are relatively expesnive when it was launched, not many were produced.

Eagle & crab hallmarks. « Argent Massif France - M.D. » on cap lip.
Spaced lines on cap and barrel. Black cabochon on cap end.

China made fountain pen

I went to the nearby market to get dinner and found this pen at an old book shop. At S$6. One cannot complain...
